What is it?
Modern diesel cars with AdBlue systems sometimes need a reset after the AdBlue tank is topped up or repairs are carried out. Without a reset, the dashboard warning may stay on, or the car may even refuse to start.
Why would I need this service?
The low AdBlue warning light won’t go out after topping up.
The car displays a “no-start countdown” message.
Work has been done on the AdBlue system (sensors, pump, injector, etc.).
What will the mechanic do?
Connect diagnostic equipment to the vehicle.
Clear any stored fault codes.
Reset the AdBlue control module so the system recognises the correct fluid level.
Carry out a short test drive to confirm the warning light has cleared.
Important to know
Using the wrong fluid or contaminated AdBlue can prevent the reset from working.
If the system has a fault (e.g. faulty sensor, blocked injector), additional repairs may be needed.
Not all vehicles need a reset after a refill — it depends on the manufacturer.
Warranty Information
This service is not covered by ClickMechanic’s 12-month warranty, as it relates to system resets rather than a repair or part replacement.
