Can I book an inspection for a written-off vehicle? Why doesn’t ClickMechanic inspect vehicles with insurance write-offs?
Why We Don’t Inspect Written-Off Vehicles
ClickMechanic is unable to offer pre-purchase inspections on vehicles that have been written off by insurance companies. Insurance write-offs are categorized based on the extent of damage:
✔ Category A & B – Vehicles that are beyond repair or should not return to the road.
✔ Category S (Structural Damage) – Vehicles that have sustained structural damage but can be repaired.
✔ Category N (Non-Structural Damage) – Vehicles with non-structural issues, such as electrical faults or cosmetic damage.
💡 Categories S & N replaced the old Categories C & D in October 2017.
Why We Can’t Perform Inspections
•Mechanics are not permitted to remove parts for a deeper investigation (similar to MOT inspections).
• Structural damage assessments require specialists at an Accident Repair Centre.
•Many repairs in written-off vehicles cannot be fully assessed without disassembly.
🔴 If you proceed with purchasing a Category A, B, S, or N vehicle without a specialist’s assessment, we will be unable to assist in the event of future issues.
